Welcome to Spring Term.

The term begins on Tuesday March 19 and ends on Wednesday June 26.  The term is 14 weeks long.  I will be away the week of April 13-20.

As usual I will send a piano lesson reminder and invoice before you first lesson of the spring term.

Our concert will be held on Saturday April 27 at 2:30 at Heliconian Hall.

We will have another student performance class on Sunday June 9.

HAVE A WONDERFUL MARCH BREAK.

To gain the most from your piano study, here are some important points:

1. Come to your lesson each week at your scheduled time.

2. Practice regularly during the week. The amount of time spent in a practice session is dependent on the goals for that week.  The emphasis needs to be on MIND SPENT NOT TIME SPENT.

However, here is my suggestion for the minimum time requirement for daily practice:

  • I suggest 5-6 days each week for these minimum times each day:
  • 15-20 minutes for young beginners… best split into two sessions.
  • 30-45 min. for Prep B to Level 5;
  • 45-60 min. for level 6-7;
  • 1.5 hours for level 8-9
  • 2 hours for level 10-ARCT

3.  Bring all of your books to each lesson.

4.  I write specific practice instructions in the student’s organizer each week.  The student should read and follow these instructions.  At this time I will write Practice instructions and goals  in Google docs.  Please make sure each student in your household has access to this information.

5.  Please provide a well-tuned and cared-for piano placed in a location conducive to concentration.  At the very least please provide a good keyboard or electric piano with at least 4 octaves, a pedal and touch sensitive (weighted) keys.
